Placement tips
Five tips from our Salinas drivers on wind, mud, hose reach, gates and permits.
Tip 1 · Wind
Afternoon wind funnels up the Salinas Valley most days. We set doors away from the wind and stake units on open lots and fields.
Tip 2 · Mud
From November to March, wet clay soil can trap a service truck. Pick pavement, gravel or a driveway edge in the rainy season.
Tip 3 · Hose reach
The service hose has to reach the tank. Choose level ground within about 15 feet of where the truck can park. A mild slope is OK.
Tip 4 · Gates
A standard unit is about 44 inches wide and fits a normal single gate. A wheelchair-accessible unit needs about 7.5 by 7.5 feet of flat space.
Tip 5 · Streets
A unit on a Salinas street or sidewalk needs an encroachment permit from City of Salinas Public Works. Driveways and private lots do not.
Delivery day
Nobody needs to be home. Mark the spot with a cone, chalk or ribbon and leave the gate code. The driver calls about 30 minutes ahead.
Not sure?
Call (831) 260-5800 and describe the spot. We talk through access, gate width and truck parking on the call.
