Sizing guide

How many porta potties do I need?

Four counting rules our Salinas dispatch team uses for parties, weddings and jobsites.

Rule 1

Start with 1 per 50 guests

Plan 1 standard unit per 50 guests for an event up to 4 hours. A 100-guest, 4-hour party needs 2 units. Longer events need more.

Rule 2

Serving alcohol? Add 20%

Drinks mean more trips. Add 20% to your count, and at least 1 extra unit. That 100-guest party with beer becomes 3 units.

Rule 3

Make 5% wheelchair-accessible

The 2010 ADA Standards call for 5% of portable units in each cluster to be accessible, with at least 1. Our accessible unit has ground-level entry and about 60 inches of turning space.

Add a handwashing station

Standard units have hand sanitizer only. A handwashing station adds 2 sinks, a foot pump, soap and paper towels.

Rule 4

Jobsites: 1 per 20 workers

Cal/OSHA (8 CCR §1526) requires 1 toilet per 20 employees. A crew of fewer than 5 can share 1 unit. Long-term units are serviced weekly.

Keep it within a 5-minute walk

Cal/OSHA §3457 calls for 1 toilet and 1 handwashing station per 20 field workers, within a ¼-mile walk or 5 minutes, whichever is shorter.
